Apple Store U.S. website back up for iPad pre-orders

Apple has announced that their U.S. Apple Store is down for maintenance. The European Apple stores are still online.
One guess is that Apple will start to offer iPad pre-ordering on the U.S. Apple store today.
No suprise after Apple advertised the iPad at the Grammy Award show. It would be smart for Apple to start taking iPad orders today.
The FCC Wi-Fi iPad is supposed to ship in March. Wired notes though that the iPad does not have FCC approval yet. Without their approval Apple will not be able to offer the iPad for pre-order.
Reports suggest that since the Apple Store is only down in the United States it needs to be something specific to the US market. Of course it also could just be nothing and Apple is just updating their wesbite.
Update:
Store is back online and nothing has changed.

This is a good step to save paper. And will save the rain forests in Indonesia. Moreover, this will reduce the burden on the back of elementary school students. Of course this will make the traditional printing companies and governments in the third world into a panic because of their unpreparedness of information technology. . .
